Gareth Owen was born in North Wales and attended Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Having studied with both Alicja Fiderkiewicz and Joan Havill, Gareth won the Leszeck Dessnet prize for a performance of Chopin and graduated with the Premier Prix at the Guildhall in 2000. Gareth also studied at the Academie International de Musique de Maurice Ravel, France and the Banff Centre of the Arts, Canada.
Gareth has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at numerous venues worldwide including the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Norway, Australia, Canada and the United States. Most recently, he performed Ravel's G major Concerto at the Blackheath Halls in London and a recital at the Festival de Musique Dans Les Vignes, France. Gareth teaches the piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is Head of Piano at Eton College, Windsor.
